Jesus Has Promised

There are many beautiful things our Lord told us,
But some of them are difficult to hear.
We who love and trust in Jesus,
Must, to the whole of His word, give ear.

Following Christ in this world means being hated,
But those who endure to the end gain their lives.
We are to persist with trust in Him unabated,
For it is from Him alone our hope derives.

We will face opposition in this fallen Earth,
For Christ’s kingdom has not yet come fully.
The day when this world will experience rebirth,
We see coming though, as of yet, dully.

The world we live in is enslaved to sin,
And lives in rebellion against God.
Though raised to life and redeemed we have been,
For now in enemy territory we trod.

Do not be surprised by the fiery trials,
That inevitably will come upon you.
We all must endure some measure of hard miles,
But we’ll cross the finish line and rise to life anew.

This broken world is not our home;
Do not expect ultimate rest on the battlefield.
We’ve but a foretaste now of Heaven’s shalom,
When our every hurt will be fully healed.

While this may make for hard hearing,
Take heart and be of good cheer.
Jesus has promised us in our persevering,
In Him we have nothing to fear.

He won’t allow our soul or body,
Not even a hair of our head, to perish.
For through His death on the cross, our God, He,
Ransomed us whom He does cherish.

He has fully paid our sin’s debt,
And will surrender no part of us to death.
The righteous requirement of justice He met,
When He surrendered His own divine breath.

So, face hatred and hardship in this world,
In the strength and grace Jesus provides.
Proclaim the good news that, love on us, He’s hurled,
And no power of Hell, us from Him, divides.

The darkness of this age is a passing thing,
But the love and glory of Christ is eternal.
Rejoice and sing praise to Jesus the King,
Who in His love saved us from Hell infernal.
