It is possible to have it all,
And gain absolutely nothing.
No earthly heights climbed can save us from the fall;
Fame and wealth grasped is merely straw clutching.
Though we may revel in climbing each rung,
Rejoicing in every step taken,
All are doomed to die forgotten and unsung;
By earthly glory, in the grave, we’ll be forsaken.
Consider oh man, what is your life,
But a brief and passing shadow?
Whether full of sorrow or with joy it is rife,
It will end soon, maybe even tomorrow.
One day as our last breath flees our lungs,
And we desperately cry, “Just one step more!”,
We will see that no matter how many the rungs,
We’ve climbed, we’ll fall through death’s door.
So what then, are we to despair?
Is life, of meaning, completely bereft?
No my friends; look up, be aware,
For to save us, the Rock, He was cleft.
Jesus the Christ, our God and King,
To Whom we can’t ascend, came down.
He left Heaven’s splendor to endure suffering,
And die wearing a thorny crown.
By no deeds of ours can we be justified,
And escape sin’s end, which is the grave.
But to pay our ransom Jesus has died,
For He’s loving and mighty to save.
He is the true riches our hearts long for;
We were made to know and love Him.
For those who trust Him, eternal life is in store;
A cup with joy overflowing its brim.
Jesus our Savior rose on the third day,
And the heights we can’t climb, He’ll raise us to.
To eternal life and glory, He is the Way;
Trust in Him and you’ll be made new.
Leave off climbing Earth’s escalator;
Its ascent only descends to the grave.
Know the joy and love of Christ our Creator,
Who with His blood, the path to life, did pave.
Do you want “one step more”; how about life without end?
Give up what you can’t keep for what you can’t lose.
Jesus the Christ is our greatest Friend,
And He offers eternal life. What will you choose?
