Saul was on his way to kill;
Breathing threats and murder.
But Jesus said, “Stop and do My will.
From now on you’re My sheepherder.
Saul, why do you persecute Me?
I am Christ, the Lord Yahweh.
From this murderous bent, I set you free;
From death to life I bring you, today.”
Struck blind by the radiance of Christ,
Saul was led to Damascus by the hand.
Jesus pulled off a most audacious heist,
Plundering him from the Devil’s land.
Once there he met Ananias the brother;
A faithful follower of the Lord.
With prayer filled hands, Saul, he did smother;
He received the Spirit and his sight was restored.
And so now we know him as “Paul,”
For with every birth there is a naming.
He was reborn in responding to Christ’s call,
And immediately, the gospel, he was proclaiming.
Though once a wolf who ravaged the church,
Laying waste and bringing forth death,
Paul was the object of our Good Shepherd’s search;
One for whom our Lord surrendered His own breath.
From dealer of death to vessel of life,
The apostle Paul was transformed.
And so it is with us, trapped in sin and strife,
If to Jesus’ call we are conformed.
Repentance and trust in Christ the Lord,
Turns all wolves into sheep;
Conduits through which God’s love is poured.
For His love is an ocean wide and deep.
Our God delights in using crooked sticks,
To draw lines beautiful and straight.
And He quenches not the burning wicks,
But fans the flame to grow bright and great.
He raises us up because of His love,
And to reveal His glory and might.
Just as He came to Paul from above,
And gave him spiritual sight,
All who trust in Christ the King,
As God, Savior and Lord,
From death to life, He’ll surely bring,
And their sight, once darkened, will be restored.
