Our gracious God delights to save sinners;
Yes, even one such as I.
What a marvel it is, one so base in his innards,
Should be called, “Beloved of the Most High.”
A “worm,” a “wretch,” the “scum of the earth;”
If you call me these I wouldn’t blame you.
But now I’ve a new title and reason for mirth,
Cause Jesus paid what, for my sin, is due.
I’m a wretch that’s beloved, a debtor made solvent;
From sin’s chains Christ has set me free.
And all who to His call are respondent,
Will also be renamed like me.
Paradise has been lost but can be regained;
To forever live with and love the Divine.
Eternal life and adoption as sons is obtained,
By grace, through faith, as is God’s design.
We’ve fallen from Eden into death and sin,
But in Christ we can be raised to life,
Made heirs and into God’s kingdom brought in,
Forever freed from sorrow and strife.
Lay down your burdens and all the old names,
At the feet of Jesus the Christ.
Death on the cross to save us from Hell’s flames,
He did not deem too high priced.
Repent of sin and hear Him call you,
“Dear one,” “My child,” and “Blessed.”
The pain and shame of the grave He went through,
That in His arms you might find rest.
While you and I are but beggars,
We can be members of God’s royal family.
He, Jesus, bore all our sin’s errors,
To save us from eternal calamity.
Be labeled “Condemned,” “Fallen,” and “Death’s Slave” no more;
All who trust Christ are a new creation.
In Jesus we can’t be called these anymore,
For His blood purchased our salvation.
Upon the Redeemed His places His seal,
And shelters them under His wings.
Every old name of ours He does repeal,
As He rejoices over us and sings.
For Almighty God is a fountain of love;
To save and rename us He delights.
Be raised from the grave to Heaven above;
All mankind He eagerly invites.
