The Doorstep of Eternity

Our short life is the doorstep of eternity;
Only in death do we cross the threshold.
And it is our spiritual paternity,
That decides what we’ll next behold.

When we cross death’s doorway,
A new, eternal, reality awaits.
What we believe while it’s yet still day,
Determines whether we pass through Hell or Heaven’s gates.

Will we be filled with awestruck wonder,
As we at last see Jesus’ face?
Or will we be wrenched asunder,
To languish in a fiery, gloomy place?

There are only two options;
The joy of God’s presence or misery without.
Unless a way’s made for our heavenly adoptions,
The path of perdition is our route.

All of us because of our sin,
Have become children of the evil one.
And unless to God’s family we’re brought in,
From His presence forever He will, us, shun.

God wants us to live with Him,
Forever in matchless splendor.
So He came to us, trapped in darkness grim,
To be our stout and strong Defender.

Because His heart overflows with love,
He, Jesus, died in our place.
He desires to raise us with Him above,
For He is rich in mercy and grace.

But we must repent and believe;
Forsaking sin and trusting God.
We must, by faith, humbly receive,
The truth that Jesus, with our sin, was shod.

He was killed and buried in the grave,
But three days later He walked out.
Christ is alive and mighty to save;
He is the only true Redoubt.

Don’t compromise on truth,
This life is not a game.
Sin’s lies that momentarily sooth,
Lead to eternal darkness and flame.

But faith in Jesus leads to life,
An eternity of pleasure and joy.
He delivers His followers from sorrow and strife,
To a land where rot and rust don’t destroy.

Call to Him now; believe in Jesus,
And rejoice knowing for certain,
From slavery to sin He frees us,
And unending life awaits beyond death’s curtain.
