In Need of Rescue

In this life we are running a race, but the path is dark and we’ve lost our way.
We have wandered and strayed into sin; now separated from God, in despair we lay.

What hope is there for such as us, lost lambs stumbling round deaf and blind?
We’ve been severed from life’s Source; now cords of death, round us, tightly bind.

We are in desperate need of rescue; a Source of light to illuminate our path.
We need a strong Shepherd to guide us, and deliver us from God’s wrath.

Blessed be the Name of Jesus, our God and Shepherd Who looks on us in love.
In our destitution He doesn’t despise us, as He gazes down from above.

He’s aware of our pain and suffering, and His heart is filled with compassion.
So He left behind Heaven’s splendor to come to us in this fallen world ashen.

He bore our sin and our sorrow on the cross as He died in our place.
Lifted up nailed to a tree He revealed His matchless glory and grace.

Jesus the Light has shone on us, and by darkness not been overcome.
He dove headfirst in the grave, and to death did not succumb.

For though He was killed and buried, He rose to life on the third day.
Away from Him sin and death fled and scurried; Christ alone is the Life, Truth and Way.

Now hear this all who’re lost on life’s journey, stumbling round in this dark fallen world,
Jesus Christ offers life eternally; mercy and grace, on all who trust Him, are hurled.

Come unto the Fount of every blessing, be rescued no matter how far you’ve strayed.
Believe in Jesus and no longer be distressing; our debt for sin He selflessly paid.

In Christ we’ll cross the finish line; death’s veil will give way to eternal life and joy.
We will dwell forever in God’s presence, and a restored relationship with Him, enjoy.
