The Path of Life

I departed from the living Way;
Forsook God and became lost on death’s path.
Shrouded in darkness and severed from light of day,
I was a rebel destined for wrath.

But one night I saw a shining Light,
Piercing through the pitch black gloom.
Then came a voice, “Arise; to Me take flight,
I will not leave you to this doom.

Repent of your sin and be cleansed;
I Am Jesus, your Lord and your God.
He who trusts and on Me alone depends,
Shall be raised to life and with righteousness shod.

I will gather you from the barren waste,
And set your feet on solid ground.
I love you son, obey Me with haste.
I died so that you might be found.”

Taking His hand, I rose to my feet,
And followed Him on the road before now unseen.
I drank deep of His living water most sweet,
And all my filthy stains He washed clean.

Praise be to God in heaven above,
He’s made known to me the Path of life.
He rained on me mercy and love;
Devoured my sin and ended my strife.

To be crucified in weakness,
Jesus Christ, the Lord God took on flesh.
Seeing us sunk in sin, drowning in bleakness,
He laid down His life to, our life, refresh.

Though from our loving God we’ve all wandered,
And have been by sin and death enslaved,
We can regain the life that we squandered,
For, through faith in Jesus all can be saved.

With mercy and love His heart overflows;
It’s not His desire that any should perish.
He underwent suffering and death throes,
To redeem us, for us He does cherish.

All who believe in Christ will be forgiven,
Raised to life and dwell with Him in glory.
No one need remain, from the Source of life, riven,
All can be delivered and share in His victory.

For though Jesus died in our place,
In three days He rose from the dead.
Come to Him; accept His loving grace.
He’s the Path of life by which to Heaven we tread.
