A Big, Green Caterpillar

Today I watched a big, green caterpillar crawl across the ground.
It ambled onward towards a plant where nutritious leaves were found.

It eagerly munched upon this food, nibbling here and there.
While I cannot guess its mood, it seemed not to have a care.

It isn’t as if there is no danger and nothing to trouble it,
But without anxiety or fear, contentedly, on its food it bit.

Seeing this I pondered, what is the ultimate source of this creature’s food?
Is it not by the hand of our Creator this plant has grown to be chewed?

And did not our Lord Jesus also call us to consider the birds?
Like the caterpillar they don’t gather and store up seeds and curds.

Each day they leave their nest and God provides for them this bounty.
And so it is with us, whether we live in the city or the county.

If He cares so for the sparrows, how much more so for us made in His image?
Though in this world all have trouble, God especially loves us who reflect His visage.

Just as the Lord provides for the critters, even more so He provides for us.
Even if at times we must go hungry, I urge you to remember Jesus.

Christ our Lord and God has our eternal good in mind.
And He, the Light, has shown on us who sin’s made deaf and blind.

While we need daily bread, what we need most is the Bread of Life.
We need resurrection for our dead souls, and rescue from sin and strife.

All this Jesus has accomplished; He died for our sin and rose from the grave.
Now all who trust in Him, He will raise to life and save.

Our Lord provides for all His creatures, and to us He’s given the most of all.
To obtain eternal life, all we need do is repent of sin and on Him call.

And when anxiety rears its ugly head, by the power of Christ we can bat it away.
Our souls are sated with the Heavenly Bread; Jesus Christ, the Life, Truth and Way.
