On the night Jesus was betrayed He went to a garden to pray.
Though He knew the cross was coming, He did not run away.
He prayed with loud cries and tears to Him Who could save Him from death.
Sweating drops of blood He said, “Thy will be done.”, amid labored breaths.
Then He rose to His feet to face the mob Judas the traitor led.
He boldly stared them down and said with hands outspread,
“Whom is that you seek?”. “Jesus of Nazareth.” they replied.
Then Jesus said, “I am he.”, and His words knocked them down midstride.
By the power of His Word, the Lord Jesus drove them to the ground.
In so doing He demonstrated that only by His own will would He be bound.
No one would take His life from Him; He gave it of His own free will.
The uncreated, all-creating God, chose to die for our sin on a hill.
To undergo such suffering to save us, He did not consider loss.
For the joy set before Him, Jesus willingly endured the cross.
His heart is full of love, and He loves us dearly.
In His selfless death, we see His love most clearly.
At any point in this ordeal Jesus could have ended it with a word.
But He refused to walk away so that our sin, to Him, would be transferred.
The penalty for sin is death, so Jesus died in our place.
The Judge stepped off the bench to show us mercy and grace.
The Lord of glory was crucified, and then buried in a grave.
But only three days later, He rose again for He’s mighty to save.
Death could not hold Him down, and all who trust Christ will rise too.
Because for us He was beaten and bound, we can rise to life anew.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus, our Lord God and Savior.
It is His delight to restore us, and show us undeserved favor.
