Unworthy Servants

Do not say, “Look at what I’ve done!”,
But rather, “I’ve only done my duty.”
We are called to reflect the light of God’s Son,
In Whom is found true beauty.

Anything in us worthy of praise,
Has come from our Creator.
The majestic and holy Ancient of Days,
Christ the Lord; there is none greater.

Why should the vessel get the glory,
That only belongs to the Potter?
For Jesus Christ is the center of the story;
We are the pots, He’s the Living Water.

It is a joy to serve and be used,
In the work He is doing.
But let us not get things confused,
And, prideful nonsense, be spewing.

Christ our Lord, in the book of Luke,
Gave us important instruction.
Our prideful tendency He did rebuke,
To protect us from destruction.

Jesus, our humble servant King,
Said to consider ourselves unworthy servants.
Whenever we’ve the privilege to service bring,
We are to make the following observance:

“I am but an unworthy servant;
I have only done my duty.
I love my Lord, and in service I’m fervent;
He ransacked Hell and took me as booty.”

To be granted to serve our Lord and God,
Gives us great cause to rejoice.
To serve is to know and with Him trod,
Holding His hand and hearing His voice.

Did not King David, a man after God’s heart,
The joy of serving the Lord, express?
He said, from the wicked’s tent, He’d rather depart,
To, as a doorkeeper in God’s house, dress.

In King Jesus’ presence is fullness of joy,
Peace, pleasure and life everlasting.
Before serving Him, we were in death’s employ,
But He has shattered sin’s casting.

In Him we are all new creations,
By grace, through faith saved from the fall.
Let’s give glory to Him in all our operations,
As we invite others to answer His call.
