This Story Has a Good Ending

Oh Holy Spirit, ‘the Word behind every word,’
The Music beneath every note that is heard,
Inspire me now and give me the grace,
To encourage Your people and despair, displace.

Oh magnificent Muse, Jesus Christ my Lord,
Make me a vessel through which Your truth is poured.
You are the Author of mankind’s salvation;
You suffered and died to redeem us, Your creation.

This story You’re writing has a good ending;
The journey is painful, but our heartache You’re mending.
Though in this world we grieve, we don’t do so without hope.
You’ve not left us in darkness to crawl ‘round and grope.

You took on flesh and descended in light,
To set the captives free and conquer the night.
Seeing us trapped in sin and to death enslaved,
You dove into the grave that we might be saved.

You were nailed to a cross where You bled and died;
You were buried in a tomb after being crucified.
But in that moment which looked like defeat,
You cried, “It is finished!”, for Your victory was complete.

And to prove You won, You walked out of the tomb.
You waited only three days to show You conquered the gloom.
And now we have hope; death has lost its sting.
To all who repent and trust You, new life You bring.

While for a short time we still dwell below,
And endure much suffering, trouble and sorrow,
We march forward with joy; You’ve given us peace.
One day our suffering will end and our sadness will cease.

For all who trust Jesus the best is yet to come.
To neither death nor despair will we succumb.
All the best stories contain painful portions,
But these then give way to joy in splendorous proportions.

This story has a good ending for King Jesus has decreed,
The very gates of Hell, against His church, won’t succeed.
The Earth will be remade, and sin and death washed away;
We’ll be given redeemed bodies free of death and decay.

The good ending of this story is life without end,
Because of the Lord Jesus, our God, Savior and Friend.
So repent now of sin and trade death for life.
Come find rest in the Savior Whose heart with love is rife.
